The community job Brisbane City Council program is designed to provide career opportunities to long-term unemployed people. Under this job Brisbane City Council program, citizens are given the chance to do community-based work for three to six months. The community job Brisbane program not only helps unemployed citizens earn a decent income, it also helps develop the workers' skills and potential that have been left unhoned and untapped due to unemployment. The community job Brisbane program is part of the state government's "Breaking the Unemployment Cycle" initiative.

Eligibility and target groups of community job Brisbane program

As long as you're over 15 years old and have been unemployed for at least 12 months, you're eligible to join the community job Brisbane program. The eligibility criteria for the community job Brisbane program is flexible in that even though you're currently employed but still at risk of long-term unemployment, you can still join the community job Brisbane program. Even though eligible citizens are free to join the community job Brisbane program, the city council also aims to use the program to help indigenous people, foreigners, homeless youth and people with disabilities generate income for themselves.

Trainings and projects of community job Brisbane program

After successfully signing up and getting accepted into the community job Brisbane program, you'll be given training on various subjects such as workplace health and safety, first aid and job search and career planning. Some of the community job Brisbane program's training sessions are designed to help you carry out the tasks involved in the projects you'll be assigned to, while some are for your personal development.

Some of the projects that the community job Brisbane program include those in public works and construction, environmental restoration, information technology innovation projects and renovation of community and tourist facilities. While the community job Brisbane program is designed to generate employment, it can only provide contractual work (three to six months). When the project ends, the city council cannot guarantee that they'll land you a permanent job. What the city council will do, however, is help you search for jobs through the organizations and networks you've worked with under the community job Brisbane program.
